THE Hockeyroos will have their diet and core body temperatures monitored to cope with heat and humidity, but Olympic rivals Great Britain have a bizarre solution to dealing with Beijing's infamous pollution: red contact lenses.

British captain Kate Walsh said the lenses cut glare, reduced squinting and were high contrast, so the white ball was more easily tracked by players.

But Australian head coach Frank Murray dismissed the red-eyed ploy as a stunt. "We are not sure of the science behind it," he said.
