? AEROSOL art should be encouraged, not quashed, as part of the solution to stamping out illegal graffiti, Newcastle Labor councillors believe.

Mike Jackson, Sharon Claydon, Tim Crakanthorp and Nuatali Nelmes have slammed an anti-vandalism proposal Independent Team Buman colleagues plan to put to Newcastle City Council tonight.

Aaron Buman, Mike King and Shayne Connell are lobbying for measures that involve shutting down aerosol art programs and revoking the driver's licences of convicted vandals.

Labor has said the measures are short-sighted and has proposed alternatives such as investigating the best site for a graffiti wall and skate park.
